A250 Community Conversation: “Get to Know the Declaration”
7:00 p.m. | Ridgefield Library
Free
Join the Keeler Tavern Museum and History Center and Ridgefield Library for a thought provoking series: America250 Community Conversations. These conversations are facilitated discussions led by Ridgefield Library and KTM&HC staff that focus on increasing our community’s familiarity and interaction with the Declaration of Independence. These discussions encourage participants to share, listen, and learn together, with no prior knowledge about the Declaration or its historical context needed.
On September 11, join us for our first Community Conversation, “Get to Know the Declaration of Independence: A Founding Document Close Reading.” Using excerpts from the complete Declaration, we’ll read and discuss one of our nation’s most important political documents, with a goal of becoming more aware of what the document actually says. Audience participation is encouraged – we want to hear from you! This program is best suited for adults and teenagers.
Join us for any or all of the America250 Community Conversations:
- September 11th at the Ridgefield Library: Get to Know the Declaration of Independence: A Founding Document Close Reading
- December 9th at the Ridgefield Library: They Said What? Responses to the Declaration of Independence
- March 26th, 2026 at Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center: The Declaration at 250: Understanding “Life, Liberty, and The Pursuit of Happiness” in 2026
Copies of the Declaration of Independence will be available to check out from the Library one month prior to each program, or you can access a full-text copy online at https://www.archives.gov/founding-docs/declaration-transcript
